Economy of Chennai

The economy of Chennai is as diverse as the the city itself.The economy is based on the automobile, software services,medical tourism, hardware manufacturing and financial services.The city is also home to several other industries such as apparels,textiles and petrochemicals. The famous Madras Stock Exchange is the fourth largest Gross Metropolitan Product in the country. The two important ports called Chennai Port and Ennore Port have contributed immensely for its growth.

Chennai because of its diversified and developed economy is known for its highest quality life among the primary Indian cities. It is ahead of the Silicon city Bangalore and three other metros based on the "Location Ranking Survey" conducted by ECA International. It occupies 26th position in Asia in terms of livability.
