Bhubaneswar is regarded as one of the holiest cities of the country. Bhubaneswar is known by the name of the "Temple City of India". The major reason for this is that the city is the seat of ‘Tribhubaneswar’ or 'Lord Lingaraja'. Along with that, there are hundreds of Hindu temples in the city that attract devotees from far and wide. Bhubaneswar is not only known for it religious places. Rather, there are numerous tourist places in and around the city where one can go and enjoy, like the Pipli village.

Udaygiri and Khandagiri

Udayagiri and Khandagiri Caves exhibit the deep impact of Buddhism and Jainism dating back to 2nd century BC. Situated at a distance of 7-8kms from the city of Bhubaneswar, these caves with their fine carvings are a treat for any art enthusiast. Udaygiri caves are about 135ft high and Khandagiri caves are about 118ft high.

Hirapur

Situated on the bank of river Kuakhai about 15kms southeast of the city, the village of Hirapur is famous for the shrine of Chausath Yogini Temple dedicated to 64 manifestations of the goddess Shakti. The images are made of black chlorite stone.

Atri

Famous for the hot springs having curative powers, Atri is located at a distance of 42kms from the temple city. It is also popular for Lord Hakateswar Temple. Devotees vist in large numbers as it is believed that Lord Hatakeswar fulfills every wish of His devotee.

Pipli

Situated on the highway to Puri, this tiny village is about 15kms from the city.It is famous for applique work. Stiched colored awnings, covers for deites and hangings for festival days are available here.
