Coimbatore Tourist Attraction
Coimbatore is located in the rain shadow region of the Western Ghats. Coimbatore Agriculture University
It is rated amongst the best institutions of its kind in South Asia. It was set up in 1868 as an Agricultural Farm in 1868 in Saidapet, Chennai. The institute was shifted to Coimbatore in 1907 and was renamed as Agricultural College which finally got a new name Tamil Nadu Agricultural University.
Perur Temple
The Peru Shiva Temple or Mel Chidambaram is located about 6kms away in the west of Coimbatore. As the name suggests, the temple is dedicated to the Lord Shiva and the presiding deity is Patteeswaras and His Consort, Pachai Nayaki. The temple was built by Karikala Cholan.
VOC Park and Zoo
Named after the noted freedom fighter V. O. Chidambaram, the park is a wonderland and just the right place for the children. There are plenty of amusement activities for the entertainment of the children. Train for the children, mini zoo and garden laced with models of pre-historic dinosaurs are the prime attractions of the park. The zoo is a fascinating place and the abode of several wild creatures such as birds, mammals and reptiles.
Marudhamalai Temple
Set atop a hillock, the Marudhamalai hill temple is dedicated to Lord Murugan. The temple is just 15 kms away from the city of Coimbatore.The hill is an attractive place as it is dotted with medicinal herbs.
Thirumoorthy Temple
This splendid temple is just 50 kms from Pollachi and adjacent to Thirumoorthy Dam. The most unique part of the temple is that three Moorthy Idols originated in one place. Lying at the foot of Thirumoorthy Hills, the temple is surrounded by scenic gallery.
Anamalai Wildlife Sanctuary
It is located at Pollachi, about 90 kms from Coimbatore. Also known as the India Gandhi national Park, the park is a favored den of the wildlife lovers. There are various kinds of fauna like Tiger, Wild Bear,Wild Bear, Porcupine, Wild Dog and many more. The sanctuary is spread over an area of 958 Sq Km and laced with breathtaking views.
