Rock Garden Chandigarh
Rock Garden is probably Chandigarh's premier attraction, a popular spot for tourists. It was created by Nek Chand Saini, a resident of the city, in 1958. The urban waste material like bottles, tin cans, broken plugs, plates, saucers was turned into creative patterns and textures, mute rocks turned into art objects. A visit to the Rock Garden is a must for all the tourists traveling to Chandigarh. The first phase of the rock Garden is a small canyon. The canyon opens into a series of chambers, each one filled with scores of human and animal forms in concrete and broken ceramic or glass.
Chandigarh Botanical Gardens
Chandigarh Botanical gardens are one of the main tourist attraction places of this beautiful city. There are two botanical gardens in Chandigarh, India, one located in the Punjab University and another between the Rock Garden and Sukhna Lake in Sector 1. The botanical garden of Punjab University has distinctive varieties of plants. On one corner, you can find cacti and succulent plants, while; the other corner contains several evergreen and exotic plants. Also, you can find gorgeous lotus flowers over here. The botanical garden that lies between the rock garden and Sukhna Lake is spread on an area of 88 acres. The best part about this garden are the rare species of plants and small lily pools. Apart from these two botanical gardens, one more garden of such kind is in the process of establishment, where you'll be able to find indigenous plant species and trees of medicinal value.
Chandigarh Bougainvillea Park
Covering a total area of 20 acres, Chandigarh Bougainvillea Park is located in sector 3. This garden exhibits different varieties of bougainvillea flowers. Bougainvillea Park of Chandigarh, India was set up in the year 1976. You can spot about 65 distinctive varieties of Bougainvillea shrubs planted over here. The park contains creepers that cover a large collection of bowers, arches, pavilions and arcades. The popular annual Bougainvillea show is hosted here. Fitness tracks have also been laid over here.
Fitness Trail & Flower Garden
Fitness trail & flower garden of Chandigarh is a very famous garden of the city that is located in Sector 10. It covers a total area of 94 acres, out of which 52-acre land consists of gorgeous seasonal flowers and the left out portion houses the mind-blowing sculptures of well-known artists. And a part of Chandigarh fitness trail & flower garden is utilized for conducting various cultural events. The garden has a real scenic beauty and taking this into consideration, it was thought to combine the natural beauty and physical exercises. Eventually, a physical fitness trail park was set up over here in 1965. Chandigarh fitness trail & flower garden serves as the apt place for long walks and physical workouts. The garden was renovated in 1985.
Garden Of Fragrance
Garden of fragrance in Chandigarh, India is a must visit garden of the city. It is famous for its distinctive aromatic and fragrant plants. Garden of fragrance is located in Sector 36 on the south side of the Hibiscus Garden. Some of the fragrant plants that can be found here are Raat ki rani, demask roase, motia, Champa, Haar Shingar, mehndi and varieties of jasmine. Chandigarh garden of fragrance also serves as a fabulous picnic spot. Tracks have been laid in the garden and now people come here in the morning and evening time to carry out their physical workouts.
Chandigarh Rose Garden
Rose garden of Chandigarh, India is the largest of its kind in Asia. Named after India's former President, Zakir Hussain, this beautiful garden was set up in 1967 with the support of Chandigarh's first Chief Commissioner, late Dr M S Randhawa. Chandigarh rose garden contains more than 17,000 plants. There are nearly 1,600 varieties of roses over there. It is a spacious garden covering an area of 27 acres. Dr. Zakir rose garden not just consists of the gorgeous roses, but also trees of medicinal value. Some of the medicinal plants that can be spotted here are bel, bahera, harar, camphor and yellow gulmohar. Rose garden serves as the venue for hosting the annual festival of gardens, a major cultural event of the city.
Shanti Kunj
Shanti Kunj garden in Chandigarh is situated at a very peaceful place that is free from any noise and pollution. Therefore, it has been rightly named as Shanti Kunj. It is located between the Rose Garden and the Cricket Stadium in Sector 16. In the Chandigarh Shanti Kunj park, you can find different varieties of plants and trees like vertical shaped trees, trees that provide shade, trees apt for environment and flowering trees. Also the garden contains a plenty of medicinal plants that are utilized to cure several diseases. There is a natural stream that runs through this garden and also is responsible for dividing the whole area into five different segments.
Terraced Flower Garden
Covering an area of 10 acres, Terrace garden in Chandigarh, India was set up in the year 1979. It is located in Sector 33. The main attraction factor of terraced flower garden is its lighted musical fountain, where popular folk as well as film songs are played. It serves as the main venue for conducting the Chrysanthemum Show that is held annually. Chandigarh terraced flower garden contains exquisite varieties of flowering plants. The atmosphere over here is very tranquil and people frequently visit this garden in the evenings to enjoy the cool breeze and to feast their eyes with the surrounding beauty.
