About Deogarh

Deoghar, a famous Hindu pilgrimage is situated in northeastern part of Jharkhand. The holy place is a fine health resort as well. Deogarh is beautifully dotted with well- known temples that are visited by a number of devotees throughout the year. The place has a sacred feel to it. The history of Deoghar dates back to 1201 , when the Muslim invader Bhaktiyar Khilji turned it into his capital, after conquering Bihar. Deogarh has good connectivity and is therefore easily accessible by rail, road and local transport.

Places to see in Deoghar: Baba Baidyanath Temple: The old temple of Baba Baidyanath is known for being one of the twelve "jyotirlingas' in India. It is one of the 51 shakti peethas.

Baidyanath Dham: Located peacefully in the Santhal Parganas of Bihar, it attracts a good number of devotees.

Shiva-Baidyanath temple: The ancient temple is one the prime attractions . Apart from these, there are 22 small temples which are dedicated to the Hindu- God Shiva.

Nandan Pahar: A tiny hill, located on the edge of the town, it is known for the popular Nandi Temple and houses the famous Shiv Temple. The pahar has a big park for the children. Some of the other popular places here are a ghost house, boot house and a mirror house.

Basukinath: Located at a distance of 43 km from the town of Deoghar near the village of Jarmundi, it is known for its Shiva Temple. The temple is famous for being ornamented with local art.

Ramakrishna Mission Vidyapith: It is a branch of Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math, Howrah district. The boarding school is run under the able guidance of the monks of R K Mission. The campus has abundant greenery and imparts modern education finely wrapped with ancient cultures. The sports lover will love its 12 football fields.

Trikuta Hills: It is a lovely set of three mountain peaks, located at a distance of 13 km away from Deoghar, on the way to Dumka. The Trikutachal hill gets its name from the three prime peaks. Trikutachal., the hill is 1,350 feet (400 m) high.
